STEM Engineering & Technology
In STEM class "AKA" Engineering, student will experience the engineering design process to solve a multitude of design challenges. This is a very hands-on program that combines project-based learning with real-world problem solving. Projects and Activities change from year to year. Below are some pictures of past activities, but may not necessarily be experienced by future students.
Curriculum Topics include but are not limited to the following for each grade level . . .
6th Grade: Structural engineering including bridges, towers & dams, Rube Goldberg machines, roller coaster design & Newton's Laws, computer dissection, electric circuits, medieval weapons, surgical technology, computer animation, environmental awareness & mining engineering.
7th Grade: Building to withstand natural disasters, Sound waves and musical instrument design, Genetic Engineering and DNA, Seaperch ROV construction, renewable energy with Kidwind wind turbines and manufacturing engineering.
8th Grade: Space exploration and rover design, passive solar home design, city planning, physics of motion, force and acceleration, aeronautics, water rocket design, Lego Mindstorm robotic programming, and bluetooth operation.
