- Where does STEM fit in?
- STEM stands for Science, Technology, Engineering and Math. It is a different approach to learning that equips students for 21st century. It focuses on Critical Thinking, Cooperative learning and teaching the “STEM” disciplines via all subject areas. STEM class will be an elective where those disciplines will be experienced on a daily basis. Curriculum classes in GATE will incorporate STEM instruction at various times during the year.
GATE covers all facets of gifted, AP and advanced programs. Many students blend seamlessly into the STEM specialized activities. In other classes students will experience STEM related activities.
GATE isn’t an accelerated program per say with more homework requirements. In fact students in GATE often have less homework and more project based, in class work, than other students at OMS. GATE classes will go more in-depth with the purpose of rigor and relevance. .
